It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up. —Vince Lombardi

A job interview is probably the most important step you will face as an adult- it’s your best window to showcase your capabilities and potential in front of a hiring manager or recruitment company.
But, do your hands tremble, and your heart beats faster before a job interview? Do you get nightmares thinking of how to answer interview questions?
Don’t worry! It’s pretty normal with many of us. The trick lies in learning how to act smart during a job interview and crack it with flying colours.
This article is written with an aim to help you effectively while preparing for your first conversation with a recruiter, hiring manager in a job interview. Let’s discuss some essential interview preparation tips that will help you to focus on your mindset and get it done with ease.

Steps to follow for a Job Interview

1. Read and Revise the Job Description

The very first step in the interview preparation process is to know about the job description. You might get a call from your dream Company, but it’s also important to understand the job profile if that’s exactly what you have been looking for.

So, take some time and revise the job description thoroughly. Focus on the following points:

  • Job Role
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Required Skills

This will give you an overall idea of what you are going to face and if you are competent enough to flaunt the required skills.
Research about the company
“What do you know about our Company?” - you are going to face this question in a job interview because they expect you to be knowledgeable enough about the organisation that has called you in for an interview. Moreover, companies always prefer to hire candidates with similar viewpoints as the company culture. So, researching the company before going for a job interview is a MUST!
You can find the details on LinkedIn, Facebook or in the Google search results. Try to keep knowledge about the CEO, MD and other Executives of the company. Plan your journey to the job interview. When you have an interview next week, make a plan this week itself. A prior plan is better than no plan. You need to be well aware of the office location and the usual traffic in the route to the office.
Arrive at the office on time, or even better, at least 15 minutes early. You can make a trial run a couple of days before. Also, keep a backup plan in case the usual route encounters some problems. Besides, go to bed early the previous night and wake up early on the day to give yourself enough time.

2. Wear formal to a job interview

Wearing the correct attire for a job interview is important, not because it will make you get the job, but you have to avoid wearing the wrong clothes to an interview. There is one RULE that you have to follow: Wear formal from tip to toe, dress professionally. Make sure you feel comfortable in your attire. You don’t need to wear a new shirt or trousers, but wear neat and clean clothes.

3. How to prepare for a telephonic interview?

In today’s digital world and mainly during the current pandemic situation, most hiring managers choose to conduct first-round interviews over the phone. Phone interviews are quite challenging as you're not physically in the room, and you have to impress them by the way you speak.

Take phone interviews very seriously. Dress properly to enter the interview mindset. Next, sit at a desk or table while speaking and do not roam around while speaking. There you go!

4. How to prepare for a video interview

Just like phone calls, video interviews can be challenging as well - the good news is, during a video interview, the interviewer can see you, and you can impress them with your presentation skills.
Before your video interview, make sure your internet technology is up-to-date and working properly. Take time to also check that your surroundings are clean and presentable.

5. How to act in an interview

Once you've completed your preparation, the next step is to crack the job interview. Your performance and your answers are the basis on which you’ll be offered the job or not. So, it’s really important to create a lasting impression in front of the hiring managers. Online Personality Development and Interview Skills training can help you better grasp this art.

6. Common interview questions and how to answer them

The most important part of preparing for an interview is having an idea about the questions asked in a job interview and also knowing how to answer the interview questions.
If you have the idea in advance, you can craft your answers well, and feel confident in your responses on the day of the interview.

7. Questions to ask in an interview

One must have a clear idea about the common questions asked in a job interview. No matter if it is your 1st or 5th interview, the questions remain the same. The questions asked in a job interview needed to be answered with confidence and that needs a little bit of practice and preparation.
